Seaton Grantland came to Milledgeville in 1809 from Virginia and began to publish "The Georgia Journal." In 1820, he and Richard M. Orme (West side, Section D, Lot 85 no. 8) (1797-1869) started "The Southern Recorder" newspaper. They both believed in states rights. The large granite tombstone of Seaton Grantland came from a firm in New York City. The home of Richard M. Orme is on the northwest corner of Liberty and Washington streets.
