About this Website
The content and design of this website is due to the efforts of a large group of volunteers. Approximately 30 volunteers gathered the information from the gravestones in 1995-1998. This resulted in the publication of the Historic Memory Hill Cemetery book (see “Related books”) and the creation of the database that is the basis of this website. This website allows you to search through the approximately 7400 known graves that were in existence prior to 1998, when the data gathering was completed.
The website design itself resulted from a prototype by former graduate student, Jeff Delaney, with content assistance from Dr. Susan J. Harrington and former graduate student, Chuong (David) Wei, at Georgia College & State University. The prototype was reviewed by the Friends of Baldwin County Cemeteries, a nonprofit group for the preservation and protection of cemeteries in Baldwin County, Georgia. The resulting web site was built by Dr. Susan J. Harrington in fall, 2000. In the spring of 2001, graduate student, Jesus Rodriguez, added the picture page of gravestones. The website continues to be maintained by Susan Harrington, who has retired from college teaching, and is funded by the Friends of Baldwin County Cemeteries, Inc.
Most of the website's pictures were taken by Hugh T. Harrington, husband of Susan Harrington. We would also like to thank Rebecca Greene of San Diego, for her contributions of McMillan family pictures and biographical data; the late Alice Andrews, wife of the late Louis Andrews (the official cemetery historian for many years), for the 1897 picture of Memory Hill; Charles Thornton for the Russell and West family photos; Betty Dawson and the Colonial Dames for various portraits having a blue background, and Constance Bohannon for the Haygood family photos.
No money has been made by any of the volunteers, compilers or web designers, and this website has been provided for the sole purpose of aiding family researchers, historians, and the Milledgeville community. Comments, donations, questions, or problems can be addressed to the webmaster at webmaster@FriendsofCems.org
