There is a woods road gate at a left angle and across Fortville Rd. The cemetery is located approx ¾ mile off the paved road, on private property and permission to enter this property can be obtained from Mr. Hamp Dowling.

Blassingame Fields Cemetery

Description: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

 

Location: From the intersection of the Round Oak/Juliette Rd and the Ocmulgee River Bridge travel approx. 4 miles to a foot travel road on the left. This foot travel road is ½ mile past the intersection of the Jarrell Plantation Rd. You will see an old house site over grown with wisteria. Follow the foot travel road remaining on the main route as there are several roads that turn off to the left. The cemetery is located approx. 1.3 miles off the Round Oak/Juliette Rd. on the right side of the foot travel road. There are approx. fifty graves, most of which are marked with only field stone.

Other info: The only marked grave is very hard to read. According to refuge technicians, a Mrs. Karen McMichael stated that this may possibly be the John Beeland Cemetery although at this point that has not been determined.

Description: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

 

 

Location: From the intersection of the Round Oak/Juliette Rd and the Ocmulgee River Bridge travel approx. 5.8 miles to the Pasture Fields Road on the left, this woods road is first road to the left past the Flat Rock Church. Traveling Norteast on Pasture Field Road you will cross a creek. The cemetery is ½ mile after the creek crossing on the right.

Other info: This cemetery contains over 100 graves sprawling out in no discernable pattern. The graves are marked with field stones head and foot with sunken depressions.

Chimney Cemetery

Description: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

 

 

Location: From the intersection of the Round Oak/Juliette Rd and the Ocmulgee River Bridge travel approx. 5.8 miles to the Pasture Fields Road on the left, this woods road is first road to the left past the Flat Rock Church. Traveling Norteast on Pasture Field Road approx. 2.5 miles you will come to an intersection where you will turn left and quickly come to another intersection where you will turn right on to Sugar Hill Rd. You will travel appox. ½ mile on Sugar Hill Rd. to a foot travel road on the right. Follow this foot travel road for 0.6 miles until you come to a small field. Travel 0.3 miles farther down the road and the cemetery is located on your left just past an old chimney and house place.

(12) Add new cemetery: Little Rock Cemetery

Little Rock Cemetery

Description: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

 

Location: Is located in compartment 21. Drive down the Wildlife Drive past the Childrens’ Pond and Little Rock. You will come to a fork in the road, of which the right branch curves around down to Falling Creek and back up, to where the left branch meets it. Take the right fork, and the cemetery is located about 200 feet farther in the island that is formed by the roads. The cemetery lies in the highest point on that ridge.

The Wildlife Drive lies only about 200 feet south from the southernmost grave.

Other info: The cemetery has over 20 graves marked only by fieldstones. The graves are oriented in several rows, and seem to follow the ridge.

(13) Add new cemetery: Old Cedar Cemetery

Old Cedar Cemetery

Description: Piedmont Wildlife Management Area

 

Location: Located on the foot travel road that leads into compartment 15. Traveling west on Juliette road past the Island Cemetery field it is the first foot travel road off to the north. Less than 0.2 miles down this road there is a clump of cedar trees on the west side of the road, and the cemetery is located in this cedar stand. The cedars are located just before the first split in the road.

The graves are about 30 feet from the road, just northwest of a 26” cedar that is clearly visible from the foot travel only road. Two of the field stones are such that they can be seen from the road as well.

(14) Add new cemetery Mossy Stone Cemetery

Mossy Stone Cemetery

Description: Located just across the county line in Jasper County

 

Location: Located in compartment 12 off of Sugarhill Rd. From the four way where Sugarhill meets Bridge Out and Pasturefield Road, go NE on Sugarhill 2.5 miles. On your right is a foot travel only road. Travel E on this road less than one tenth of a mile. When you reach the top of the first hill, there is the remnant of an old road going off to the right. If you follow this road for a very short distance, you will come to a large open area with many mature red oaks and dogwood. The cemetery is located in this clearing.

Other info: The road that the cemetery is located on loops around the cemetery and connects back to the foot travel only road that leads out to Sugarhill Rd. However, on the west side of the loop there is another road that leads off to the homesite and eventually connects with Sugarhill Rd.

Other info: The cemetery is on a hill with 4 granite slabs which measure 3' x 4' lying in a row. There are also 60-100 graves marked with field stone and depressions. Turn left and travel approximately 0.5 to the Stop sign. Turn right and travel approximately 0.5 mile to a metal gate on the left. The cemetery is located in the wooded area to the right of the gate.

Other info: Up-right markers with inscriptions have been known to exist in this cemetery although none were found in our survey. Twelve to fifteen sunken graves marked with field stone were found and it was apparent that a large clearing had been made for timber harvesting immediately adjoining the cemetery. The location of the markers is not known at this time.

Location: From the intersection of Railroad St. and the Ga. Hwy. 18 Connector travel east approx. 5 tenths of a mile to Hidden Lakes Dr. and turn right. Travel 6 tenths of a mile to 225 Hidden Lakes Dr. (Quirk Family). The cemetery is located in a wooded area behind this property.

Location: From the railroad intersection in Gray travel east on Georgia Highway 18E approx. 4.1 miles and turn left onto Friendship Church Rd. Travel approx. 3 tenths of a mile and turn left onto Stewart Farm Road and travel approx. 3 tenths of a mile and stop. The cemetery is on the right side of the road approx. 100 yards off of the right of way. It consists of three graves with slabs. The grave in the middle is the only one in tact with the other slabs being fallen into what appears to be brick vaults.
