Mary McDonald

"Here wrapped in shades and sacred slumbers lies
As Martha careful and as Mary wise."

MARY, late wife of CHARLES McDONALD
She died September 15, 1817 Aged 61
Few have attained to an equal height in
Christian excellence, and for none have
the parting tears of Relatives and
Friends more sincerely or justly flowed.
Faith seems authorized to say to her
The scenes(Note scenes assumed; only "enes" remains on stone)
of time withdrawn, new prospects rise.
Regions of bliss, and Heav'ns unclouded skies,
There, borne aloft, on Angels' wings she rode.
Her Saviour found and reached the throne of God
As the rapt seraph, there she burns and Sings,
Attunes her golden harp and strikes the immortal strings.
Escap'd from Earth, to Heav'ns ecstatic joys,
The redeeming love now fires her Soul and all
the powers imploys.

Obituary from the Georgia Journal, Sept. 23, 1817
DIED in the Vintage in Hancock County, on Monday evening, the 15th inst. Mrs. Mary M'Donald, consort of Mr. Charles M'Donald, in the sixty first year of her age. To her acquaintance no eulogy on her life is necessary, to strangers one would be uninteresting -- But may they all, like her, choose that better part which cannot be taken from them; and when they die, like her's, may their virtues gild with splendor the horizon of the grave.
