Linton's 'Miss Eugenia' Died Saturday
The Linton Community's "First Lady", affectionately known to all as "Miss Eugenia", died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15 (1990).
Eugenia Fox Trawick, 86, died at her residence in Linton. Services were held Monday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. in Darien Baptist Church. Burial was in Linton Cemetery. Rev. Reed Buckelew officiated.
She was the wife of the late J. H. Trawick and mother to two sons, Sidney of Linton, and the late Eugene of Boston, Massachusetts. She was also quite close to her daughter-in-law, Trudy, wife of Sidney. She was grandmother to four and great-grandmother to eight.
"Miss Eugenia" was born in Hancock County. She taught in the Hancock County School System for 29 years. She was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1956 and was nominated twice to the Teachers' Hall of Fame by former students.
In 1987 Miss Eugenia authored a book, Granny Was A Teacher, about her teaching experiences.
She was a dedicated Christian and served faithfully for 60 years as organist and Sunday School teacher at the Darien Baptist Church in Linton.
Eugenia Trawick was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and was a charter member of the Georgia Mu Chapter of the International Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teacher's Sorority.
In 1977 she was named a Merit Mother of Georgia and nominated as State Mother of Georgia because of her outstanding qualifications as an ideal mother.
A lasting tribute to her contributions in education and motherhood is the fact that all four of her granddaughters followed in her footsteps and became teachers.
