Capt.

Capt. Duke Hamilton

"Beneath this monumental stone is enshrined the mortal remains of Capt. Duke Hamilton, a native of Greeneville County, VA, But for the last 42 (or 12)* years a resident of Hancock County, Georgia. Death called him home on the 20th November 1852 in the 62nd year of his age. His Body rests in the house allotted to all but the recollection of his many virtues will long be green in the hearts of his numerous relatives and friends, who deeply mourn his death.

* Probably 42, but it generally appears as a 12. The style of the number and an indentation after the 1 indicates that the diagonal part of the 4 has worn off and the number is most likely 42.
