b. Ireland, aged about 50, shot down by a Federal soldier on Sherman's advance

Military Service: Confederate States of America
shot by Union soldiers at Milledgeville

Patrick Kane was the only fatality when Sherman occupied Milledgeville in 1864. Kane was shot while defending the plantation of Wm. Jarratt. The country house was burned but Jarratt's town house, The Cedars at 131 N. Columbia Street, was not.
